Tovak Kali is a rare ancient Filipino fighting system that originated from Cavite, Philippines. Cavite is the birthplace of the Philippine Independence circa 1898, and the home of the last Filipino led resistance against American colonials. It is also home to the skillful and gallant warriors that guarded the first Philippine Republic.
For the longest time, Tovak Kali was a closed door fighting system practiced only by close friends and family. Since it has never tasted commercialization, it boasts to still contain its' original, battle tested, simple, easy to learn, and wittingly effective techniques. It is a rare and guarded gem by the Aquino family, well known bladesmiths, and a fierce warrior clan who exhibited their mettle in the Philippine Revolutions against Spain and America.
Modernization has dealt a deadly blow in preserving the gem of Tovak Kali for much of its' present day practitioners have lost interest in preserving tradition. This prompted the latest generation of instructors to finally spread the system to anyone interested expecting only one condition in return, that the students honor its roots by using it only for preservation of self (for civilians), city (for law enforcement), or state (for military).
Guro Paolo Aquino, a member of the fourth generation of Tovak Kalis' originating clan, is coming to Adelaide to do a series of seminars and focus on surviving weapon attacks on May 17 -18 and 24-25.
